Accessibility Committee

The Accessibility Committee, established in the spring of 2023, has been actively developing an Accessibility Plan in alignment with the Provincial mandate. This committee includes representation from the District of Port Edward, the City of Prince Rupert, the North Coast Regional District, and the Prince Rupert Library, as well as seven community members and staff representatives from these respective organizations.

The committee has been guided by the Disability Alliance of BC, which has provided resources and a framework for the development of Accessibility Plans across BC. Using these guidelines, the committee has worked through a collaborative process to identify key actions and principles. The focus areas include employment, service delivery, the built environment, information and communications, and transportation, ensuring alignment with provincial legislation on removing and preventing barriers.
