The District of Port Edward offers a preauthorized payment plan for property taxes, allowing you to make convenient monthly payments toward your annual tax bill. Please calculate your preauthorized payment amount after your current bill is paid.
- The District does not offer refunds for overpayments unless you have sold the property. Any credit remaining on your account will be applied to the following year’s property taxes.
- Interest on installments paid prior to the property tax due date will be credited to your property tax account. According to Revenue Canada’s Interpretation Bulletin IT 396R, this interest is considered a reduction in the amount payable and is not taxable income.
- If you wish to cancel your participation in the plan, you may do so by notifying the Collector in writing. Monies paid will not be refunded, returned, or used to offset other debts owed to the District, though interest will continue to be credited on previous payments.
For added convenience, you can also pay by credit card; however, an additional 3% processing fee will apply to credit card payments.
If you sell your property, you may request a refund of prepayments by providing written notification from your conveyance lawyer.
If two installments fail to be honored on the due date, the District will cancel your participation in the plan. A $25.00 fee will be charged for late or returned payments.
Eligible homeowners must still apply for the Home Owner Grant before the due date to avoid penalties.
