Official Community Plan (OCP) and Zoning Bylaw
The District of Port Edward is undertaking a comprehensive update of its Official Community Plan (OCP) and Zoning Bylaw to align with recent legislative changes and better support the community's housing and development needs. This project is an essential part of ensuring that the District’s planning framework is up-to-date and capable of addressing the growth and housing challenges the community faces.
Project Overview:
The OCP and Zoning Bylaw Update will modernize the District’s planning documents in response to the Province of BC’s new housing legislation. These changes are designed to facilitate more housing development and ensure that local bylaws align with provincial goals for housing supply and affordability.
Key components of the project include:
- Aligning with Housing Needs Report: The update will be closely linked with the findings of the District’s Interim Housing Needs Report. This report will guide the changes needed to the OCP and Zoning Bylaws to better address the community’s current and future housing requirements.
- Community Engagement: The project will involve public consultations and engagement with residents to ensure that community priorities are reflected in the updated planning documents.
- Zoning Adjustments: Revisions to zoning regulations will aim to promote more efficient land use, increase housing opportunities, and support sustainable development in line with provincial mandates.
Key Objectives:
- Facilitating Housing Development: Updating the zoning bylaw to encourage diverse and affordable housing options, while meeting the growing demand for housing in the District.
- Modernizing Planning Framework: Ensuring that the OCP reflects current best practices in urban planning, sustainability, and community development.
- Community-Driven Updates: Engaging with the public to gather input and ensure the updates meet the needs and aspirations of the residents.
