Interim Housing Needs Report
The District of Port Edward is currently developing its Interim Housing Needs Report (HNR), a key document that will help shape the future of housing in our community. This report is part of our commitment to addressing the evolving housing challenges and ensuring the availability of suitable housing for all residents, in alignment with recent provincial legislative changes.
Project Overview:
The Interim Housing Needs Report is being prepared to meet the requirements set forth by the provincial government under Bill 44, which mandates local governments to regularly assess housing needs in their communities. The report will provide a comprehensive analysis of current housing conditions and project future needs over the next 5 to 20 years.
Key Objectives:
- Housing Supply Analysis: Determining the number of housing units needed to meet current and future demand, including projections for the next 5 and 20 years.
- Core Housing Needs: Addressing critical issues such as homelessness, housing affordability, and extreme core housing needs (those spending more than 50% of income on housing).
- Sustainable Growth: Ensuring housing development is aligned with transportation infrastructure that supports walking, bicycling, and public transit.
- Legislative Compliance: Ensuring that the District’s housing policies are up-to-date with provincial requirements and implementing actions to meet these needs.
This report will serve as a critical tool in planning for the District’s housing needs and ensuring that we continue to grow in a sustainable and inclusive manner.
