Alwyn Lake and Wolf Creek Dam
Completed
The District of Port Edward is committed to ensuring the safety and long-term sustainability of its critical infrastructure. As part of this commitment, the District is undertaking an important project to develop Operation, Maintenance, and Surveillance (OMS) Plans and Dam Emergency Plans (DEP) for both the Alwyn Lake Dam and the Wolf Creek Dam.
Project Overview:
This project is essential to bring both dams into compliance with BC Dam Safety Regulations and ensure the safety and effective operation of these facilities. The Alwyn Lake Dam and Wolf Creek Dam are both classified as "significant consequence" dams, requiring robust safety measures and regular monitoring to manage risks.
Key Objectives:
- OMS Plan Development: Creating detailed procedures for the safe operation, regular maintenance, and monitoring of both dams to detect early signs of distress and ensure their continued safe operation.
- Dam Emergency Plans (DEP): Establishing formal guidelines for emergency response in the event of unsafe conditions at either dam. This will include communication protocols, response roles, and required notifications for all relevant stakeholders.
- Long-Term Safety and Sustainability: The project includes provisions for ongoing inspections and maintenance procedures to ensure both dams meet long-term operational and safety requirements.
This initiative reflects the District's proactive approach to infrastructure management and public safety, ensuring that key assets such as the Alwyn Lake and Wolf Creek Dams are maintained to the highest standards.
