National Day for Truth and Reconciliation – September 30

We respectfully acknowledge that the District of Port Edward is located on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the Tsimshian Peoples, including the Coast Tsimshian, Kitsumkalum, and Kitselas.

Today, the District of Port Edward joins communities across Canada in recognizing the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

We take this time to honour and remember the children who never returned home, the Survivors of residential schools, and the families and communities who continue to carry the impacts of the residential school system.

September 30 is an important day for reflection, learning, listening, and acknowledging the truths of our shared history. It is also an opportunity to recognize the strength and resilience of Indigenous Peoples and to continue listening, learning, and moving forward together with respect and understanding.

Reconciliation is not limited to one day. It is an ongoing commitment to listening, learning, building respectful relationships, and carrying these lessons forward within our communities.

Today, we encourage everyone to take time to reflect, learn more about the history and experiences of Indigenous Peoples, and consider how we can contribute to a future built on respect, understanding, and reconciliation.
